Miss Lou Ann Barton, Denny Freeman and Derek O'Brien help celebrate the reopeing of our kitchen this Saturday. The rumors are true! ArtZ Ribhouse has taken over the kitchen at JAX and will begin serving this Saturday. Add to that the new food trailers in our parking lot, and it's got to be the best destination in town! RibZ, Cajun food, N. Carolina BBQ. Lou Ann.... does it get any better?

I don't send out an e-mail every week, simply because I want you to take it seriously when I tell you about a GREAT show.

This is A GREAT SHOW!!!!

Marty Sammons is the keyboard player for Buddy Guy!

His band will include members of the Fabulous T-birds and Jimmy Vaughn's band! Come on, this is incredible!

You are not going to see a hotter show anywhere in town this week, especially for $5!

Their publicist is telling me to be ready for "special guests". Although this has not been defined, my imagination is running wild.

There is no venue in town more intimate than JAX. If you really want to get up close and personal with an incredible artist, this is the place.

To make it more enticing, I'm offering, for the first time, a $5 1/4 pizza and pint special. So, for $5 (not included in the cover charge for those that will wonder) , you get 1/4 cheese pizza and a pint of either Bud, Lone Star, Ziegenboch, Miller or Bud light, or a glass of the LaTierre Cab or Chardonnay. Try to tell me that isn't an incredible deal!

The show starts at 8, so y'all can't plead "too tired" or "work tomorrow" Even folks my age will still be awake!

And, the icing on the cake is.. the 10:00 show is NAKIA and the Blues Grifters.

Last time Nakia played Jax, a jam broke out, so you never know what is going to happen.

Come to this show, and you are going to be hooked on JAX!

Chronicle

Open since June, owner Jack Malinowski's JaxNeighbor hood Cafe is at the southwest corner of 29th and Rio Grande, where Drungo Ice House and several previous spots once held court. There's a large dog-friendly patio on the east side, and when the weather is OK, the garage doors can be rolled up to connect it with a larger dining room/bar/performance space. Live music fills the cafe every night except Wednesday, when a Geeks Who Drink trivia contest takes over. Sunday night is Ted Hall's Blues Church Jam. Happy hour specials on weeknights seem to be popular with the neighborhood patrons. Jax serves 23 beers with a nice mix of local craft brews thrown in, and they serve it in bottles, pitchers, pints, and 6-ounce shorties; they also offer 14 wines.

The WayneBillies

Billy Bright and Wayne “Chojo” Jacques first met at a festival in 2001, where Billy was appearing with “Peter Rowan’s Texas Trio”, and Chojo was appearing with the “Waybacks”. In 2007 they began performing as a duo, and after a year of performing at clubs, house concerts, and festivals, released their debut CD “Texacali Blues”.

Now joined on bass by Mike Morgan of Flounders Without Eyes , and on drums by Pat Manske of the Flatlanders, they have expanded to a new level of hill country party music best defined as “waynebilly” music….. kind of a Paris Hilton moves to Green Acres sound….
